I love Elvis, James Dean, saddle shoes, poodle skirts, rock-n-roll music, cherry coke and well just about everything the 50's and 60's had to offer. Granted I was born a few decades too late to live the experience, but lucky for me, it there is a cruise night around here almost every night from spring to early fall, many are at some great 50's style diners.
Last week I was bringing Sam and a couple of his friends over to Fun Spot in Weirs, NH. It is the largest arcade in the world filled with new and totally retro video games. My favorites are Burger Time, Tubin', Frogger and playing Paper Boy using the bike handlebars to steer. Sam and friends enjoyed too many games to list but some favorites were Crazy Taxi, Metal Slug, Time Crisis, Let's Go Jungle and Terminator Salvation.
On our way to Fun Spot we stopped at the Route 104 Diner in New Hampton, NH. It's part of the Common Man family of restaurants. We've eaten there several times, the staff, the food, the music, the decor are all great! Sam and I both highly recommend their brand of root beer and be sure to get something with their chips too. I'm partial to the cheeseburger plate while Sam swears by the open-face turkey sandwich.
Every Tuesday from late spring to early fall they have cruise night at the diner. Lots of great old cars filled the parking lot and I took lots of photos. Check out these beauties.
The diner also has an ice cream stand inside of an old Airstream. They offer a variety of flavors of their own delicious ice cream. Here Andrew and Sam lift their friend Brandon on their shoulders for a photo op.
You can find more info on cruise nights around NH at CruisnTimes. We're heading over to Village Pizza in Bristol tonight for a few slices and one of the last cruise nights of the season. Good food, awesome cars and gorgeous Newfound Lake, you should take a drive up!
