Last week was the 30th anniversary Banned Book Week. It's an annual event that celebrates the freedom to read and highlights the value of free and open access to information. This is a list of the Top Ten Challenged Books of 2011 and the reasons some individuals tried to ban them from public libraries and schools.
Another book event taking place in October is The Big Read. This is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest. The author chosen by Center for the Book at the New Hampshire State Library is Edgar Allan Poe. There are loads of events happening around New Hampshire in honor of Edgar Allan Poe. Readings, contests, movies and more. Click here to see a complete list of events.
To celebrate my love of books and handmade items, I created the treasury below of various Etsy artisans. Now off to create my own Poe inspired item.
